Ukraine increases ready-to-eat and canned fish exports by 7% in H1 2020

Ukraine’s ready-to-eat and canned fish exports grew by 7% in January-June 2020, up to $3.5 million, according to the press service of the Ukrainian State Agency of Fisheries.

“In January-June 2020, Ukraine exported 1,900 tonnes of ready-to-eat and canned fish worth $3.5 million, which is $232.1 thousand (7%) more than in the same period last year,” reads the report.

The biggest buyers of Ukrainian-produced ready-to-eat and canned fish were Moldova (635 tonnes, $1 million), Georgia (368 tonnes, $529.9 thousand), the United States (103 tonnes, $407.4), Azerbaijan (236 tonnes, $315.2 thousand). These countries accounted for 64% of the total ready-to-eat and canned fish exports. Significant deliveries were also carried out to Israel, Uzbekistan, Belarus and Germany

Ukraine’s ready-to-eat and canned fish exports consisted mainly of sardine, sardinella and sprat (1,454 tonnes, $1.8 million), herring (45.3 tonnes, $158.4 thousand), scomber (26 tonnes, $63.1 thousand), anchovy (13 tonnes, $136.6 thousand).

As reported, Ukraine’s fish and crustacean exports reached $14 million in January-June 2020, which is 14.8% more than in the same period last year.
