Ukraine increases imports of tobacco and tobacco products by 18 percent

In January-June 2020, Ukraine imported tobacco and tobacco products to the tune of $243 million, up 18% compared to the same period in 2019.

“Tobacco raw material remains the main item in foreign purchases of tobacco products for Ukraine. In the first half of 2020, Ukraine imported more than 21,000 tonnes of tobacco raw material worth $115 million. The second largest import item is other tobacco products and substitutes for industrial production (about 9,000 tonnes to the tune of $112 million),” National Scientific Centre "Institute of Agrarian Economics" informs.

In January-June 2020, the major suppliers of tobacco products to Ukraine were Italy (24.9% of total tobacco imports for the period), Malawi (12.3%), Germany (10.6%), the Netherlands (10.5 %), and Brazil (9.1%).

According to the IAE, in the first half of 2020, Ukraine imported $3.2 billion worth of agricultural products, up 12.3% compared to January-June 2019.
