Ukraine’s meat exports fall by 12 percent

In the first half of 2020, Ukraine’s exports of meat products fell by 12% compared to the same period last year, down to $319 million.

According to National Scientific Centre "Institute of Agrarian Economics", this is the first negative result over the past five years. Since 2015, there has been a positive trend of increasing meat and offal exports due to wide geographical diversification. However, the COVID-19 pandemic adversely affected the export of this type of agricultural products.

In the first half of 2020, the major importers of Ukrainian meat were Saudi Arabia (15.0%), the Netherlands (14.2%), the UAE (11.1%), Belarus (6.3%), Azerbaijan (5.8%), Iraq (4.6%), Kazakhstan (4.5%).

Poultry remains the export item of this group.*(remains the 'what' export item?) The amount of poultry exports remained virtually unchanged compared to the first half of 2019: 212,000 tonnes. At the same time, foreign currency earnings from the sale of domestic poultry meat on foreign markets decreased by 12% compared to the first half of 2019, totaling $271 million.
