Ukraine, EU to discuss updating of Association Agreement in autumn

Ukraine and the European Union will discuss political and legal aspects of updating the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement this autumn.

Ukraine's Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture, Ukraine's Trade Representative Taras Kachka said this during a dialogue with Ukrainian businessmen regarding the updating of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"This autumn we will have an active dialogue with the EU on what political goals we set, what their legal framework can be and what we can achieve," Kachka said.

He noted that over the past five years, relations with the EU have improved in virtually every area, as our businesses have understood how to work with the EU.

As reported, on March 21, 2014, during an extraordinary Ukraine-EU summit, the political part of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement was signed. The economic part of the agreement was signed at the highest level on June 27, 2014.

On September 6, 2014, the Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament simultaneously ratified this document. On January 1, 2016, the EU and Ukraine started applying the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). On September 1, 2017, the Agreement entered into force in full.
