Ukraine budget deficit of 7.5% not a problem - Shmyhal

Ukraine's budget deficit of 7.5% is not a problem, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

He said this during a virtual roundtable meeting entitled "Ukraine Reforms: What Next?" organized by Chatham House on July 7, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"This is a much smaller deficit than in many European countries, where the deficit can fluctuate at 10%. That is, 7.5% is the deficit that was agreed with the IMF during the negotiations," Shmyhal said.

He said that the Ukrainian government understands the sources of covering the budget deficit and knows how to end this fiscal year.

"This is an economic indicator that is not a problem at all in terms of its coverage and this year's budget," Shmyhal said.

According to him, Ukraine's foreign debt is $80 billion, "which is also an absolutely adequate figure for Ukraine's GDP."
