Retail trade turnover reaches pre-crisis level – PrivatBank

In May 2020, Ukraine’s trade in the main retail sectors reached pre-crisis levels, according to a press release from PrivatBank, which is available to Ukrinform.

"In May 2020, the trade turnover in the main retail sectors reached the pre-crisis level and almost reached the figures of February 2020," reads the statement.

In particular, the grocery retail exits quarantine without losses. According to the analysis of purchases paid with cards in the network of bank’s trading terminals, non-cash turnover in grocery stores increased by 25% in March and April 2020, compared to February. In May, non-cash turnover in the grocery chain was 23% higher than in February. During the first months of quarantine, the highest increase in non-cash circulation was recorded in the networks of pharmacies and medical supply stores: up 30% in March compared to February. In May, non-cash turnover in pharmacy chains fell by 18% compared to February.

A significant decline in non-cash circulation during quarantine was recorded in the market of electronics and household appliances. In particular, the decline made up 10% in March compared to February, and 43% in April. Turnover in this trade sector returned to pre-quarantine levels in May 2020.

In addition, non-cash circulation in the network of filling stations almost reached pre-quarantine levels in May 2020, where there was a 20%drop in sales in April.
