Russian gas transit through Ukraine decreases by 46% this year

In January-May 2020, transit of Russian gas through Ukraine amounted to 20 billion cubic meters, which is 46% less than in the same period last year.

"The total volume of gas transported via the Ukrainian gas transmission system (GTS), in accordance with the new gas transit agreement with Gazprom, reached 20 billion cubic meters, which is 46% less than in the same period last year (36.9 billion cubic meters)," the press service of Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) LLC reports.

In January-May 2020, the average daily transit quota amounted to 132 million cubic meters of gas. Daily transit increased in March and was recorded at the level of 150-155 million cubic meters per day.

"While maintaining this pace, the annual gas transit volume can reach 52-55 billion cubic meters, which will be the lowest figure in the history of the Ukrainian gas transmission system," the report notes.

At the same time, since the beginning of 2020, transit capacities from the Russian Federation are fully paid by PJSC Gazprom.

“For its part, Gas TSO of Ukraine fulfills all daily requests and continues to ensure uninterrupted gas transportation to European countries,” the company added.
