About 70% of coal mining enterprises shut down in Donbas over occupation

Since the beginning of the occupation of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, approximately 70% of all coal mining enterprises and mines have been shut down.

A lawyer and director of the Eastern Human Rights Group, Vira Yastrebova, said this during the presentation of the Group’s reports on the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The cynicism of the actions of the Russian Federation lies in the fact that 70 percent of coal mining enterprises and mines have been shut down over the years of occupation, salaries have been reduced significantly, no pension payments, no freedom of peaceful assembly or unionization. All those were usurped and is aimed at the political influence of those people who call themselves the so-called “trade union leaders” and promote non-existent quasi-republics,” the director of the Eastern Human Rights Group said.
