Kryklii expects Verkhovna Rada to approve law on banking services for Ukrposhta

Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii says he hopes that the parliament will pass a law on the provision of banking services to the national postal operator Ukrposhta.

“In terms of the level of accessibility of financial services for people, we are somewhere close to Uganda, Gabon and Ecuador.  We expect MPs to support bill 2788-D ‘On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Financial Services in the Field of Postal Services,” Kryklii wrote on his Telegram channel.

In 2017, Ukrposhta initiated a bill to expand financial services, but the document did not receive support. The National Bank stated against the relevant legislative changes, pointing to the existence of four large state-owned banks in Ukraine, the total share of which after the privatization of PrivatBank exceeded 50% of the market.

In 2018, the national postal operator received a customs broker license. In the same year, the NBU granted Ukrposhta a license to transfer funds in the national currency without opening accounts.

In January 2020, the Verkhovna Rada again registered a bill amending certain legislative acts on financial services in the field of postal services (No.2788).
