Smolii plans to govern National Bank until 2025

Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Yakiv Smolii intends to remain in his post until the end of his term - until 2025.

“For an NBU governor, the law provides for a seven-year term, and there is an exhaustive list of grounds on the basis of which he can be replaced. The governor of the National Bank is appointed and dismissed on the proposal of the president, and approved by the Verkhovna Rada. My term of office expires in 2025. Thus, we still have time and many tasks to complete,” Smolii told BBC News Ukraine.

To support the economy during quarantine, the NBU has taken many steps and will take a lot after it is over, Smolii noted.

“We managed to comprehensively support the economy in the context of a coronavirus crisis. Therefore, we are ready for quarantine exit and economic recovery,” he said.
