Economy Ministry estimates Ukraine’s grain harvest at 65-68 mln tonnes in 2020

The Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture forecasts that this year’s grain harvest will reach 65-68 million tonnes, which will keep exporting status of Ukraine.

"We forecast several scenarios this year. The most realistic for harvesting is 65-68 million tonnes. This is less than last year, but still these are significant volumes that will allow us to ensure food security in Ukraine, as well as maintain the status of a major exporting country,” Minister for Development of Economy Ihor Petrashko said at a briefing in Kyiv on May 13, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

Earlier, the Ministry for Development of Economy stated that Ukrainian farmers in 2020 would harvest 60 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops due to lack of moisture and economic factors caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2019, Ukrainian farmers gathered 74.3 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops from 15 million hectares, which is a record harvest.
