Ukraine hopes to get $3.5 bln from IMF this year – finance minister

Ukraine could receive two tranches of $1.75 billion each from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2020, Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko has said.

He said this at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada committee on finance, tax and customs policy on Monday, April 27, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"At the moment we are talking about $3.5 billion and, accordingly, two tranches: $1.75 billion and $1.75 billion," Marchenko said.

He also said that Ukraine would like to increase this amount, but so far the issue concerns about $3.5 billion. The total amount of Ukraine's new program of cooperation with the IMF could reach $8 billion.

The National Bank of Ukraine earlier predicted that Ukraine could receive a tranche of $2 billion from the IMF in the second quarter of 2020.
