Ukraine rises to 11th place in ranking of world's largest steel producers

Ukraine took 10th place in the ranking of world's largest pig iron producers and climbed to 11th place in the ranking of world's largest steel producers in the first quarter of 2020.

Ukrmetalurgprom Association reported this referring to data provided by the World Steel Association.

“Ukraine fell from 9th to 10th position among 40 world’s largest pig iron producers (5.095 million tonnes or 97.8% compared to January-March 2019), giving way to USA (5.53 million tonnes or 95.4% compared January-March 2019)… Ukraine climbed to 11th position among 62 world’s largest steel producers (5.32 million tonnes or 96.6% against Q1 2019), shifting Italy to 12th position,” reads the statement.

In the ranking of world’s largest pig iron producers, the first place belongs to China, which produced 199.74 million tonnes in January March 2020 (up 2.4% year-on-year). The share of China in world pig iron production is 59.9%.

China leads in world steel production as well. Chinese steelmakers produced 234.45 million tonnes (up 1.2% year-on-year). The share of China in world steel production is 52.9%.

As Ukrinform reported, Ukraine took 10th place in the ranking of world's largest pig iron producers and 13th place in the ranking of world's largest steel producers in 2019, according to the World Steel Association.
