PM Shmyhal: Repair of local roads is Government’s priority

More than UAH 80 billion will be allocated for road repair in 2020. This is an unprecedented amount preserved in the updated State Budget of Ukraine.

“During a working visit to Zakarpattia region on Thursday, April 23, the Head of Government of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal emphasized that along with the overhaul of roads of national importance the priority for the Cabinet of Ministers is the construction and repair of roads of local importance. According to him, the Government will not stop on the funding of UAH 22 billion, which has been included for the repair of local roads in the State Budget, but will leverage additional funding,” the Government portal reports.

“The key aspect now is to timely develop the design and budget documentation for local road construction activities. It is advisable to engage in activities along the directions instead of doing separate parts of work. For example, there is 200 km of local road, it is necessary to make design estimates for the whole section. We will look for additional resources if needed. Local roads should be co-financed this year,” the Head of Government said.

Shmyhal stressed that this is a priority for both the President and the Government and is also part of the Great Construction program.
