National TV Council issues license to UA|TV channel

Ukraine's National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting has issued a license to the UA|TV channel.

A respective decision was made at a council meeting on Friday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

Oleh Chernysh, a council member, said that the satellite license had been issued for a period of ten years and that the area of coverage is Europe.

Earlier, the UA|TV channel's license was re-issued to the Dim television channel for temporarily occupied territories.

Earlier reports said that the Ukrainian authorities, on the basis of the UA|TV channel, were launching a channel that will broadcast programs for temporarily occupied territories in Donbas in Ukrainian and Russian. Former Ukrainian Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Volodymyr Borodiansky said it would be a state-owned entertainment and information channel.

The new TV channel for temporarily occupied territories was named "Dim" ("Home") and started broadcasting in trial mode on March 1. The presentation of its concept took place at Ukrinform on March 2.
