Inflation in Ukraine slows down to 4.1%

In December 2019, consumer prices in Ukraine dropped by 0.2% compared with the previous month, according to the State Statistics Service.

“Consumer prices in December 2019 decreased by 0.2% compared with November 2019, and grew by 4.1% since the year-start. Core inflation in December 2019 amounted to 0.3%, compared to November 2019, and 3.9% since the year-start,” reads the report.

Consumer prices in December 2019 fell by 0.2% against November 2019, and grew by 4.1% against December 2018. In 2019, prices in the consumer market increased by 7.9% compared to 2018.

Among consumer goods and services, in December 2019 compared to December 2018, the largest increase in prices was recorded in the prices for rail passenger transport services (19.2%), fruits (18.8%), and hot water and heating supply (14.4%).

From December 2018 to December 2019, the largest decrease in the prices was recorded in prices for natural gas (by 28.7%), eggs (14.6%), fuel and lubricants (8.2%).

As reported, consumer prices in Ukraine in December 2018 grew by 0.8% from the previous month, and by 9.8% since the year start. Core inflation in December 2018 fell to 0.6% from the previous month, and reached 8.7% at the year-end.
