Ukraine halts gas transit for Turkey and Bulgaria - Makogon

Gas transit through Ukraine to Turkey and Bulgaria was halted due to the launch of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline.

Director General of Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine LLC (GTSOU) Serhiy Makogon stated this at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"As to the Turkish Stream, I can confirm that deliveries to Bulgaria and Turkey through Ukraine are no longer carried out. All the applications we receive are for Romania and Moldova. We do not transport gas to customers in Turkey through the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline," he said.

At the same time, he added that it is now possible to use the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline for reverse supply.

"I don’t know if there is commercial interest in this, but as an operator we provide such an opportunity," said Makogon.

The first line of the TurkStream pipeline was launched on January 8, which will deliver gas to Europe bypassing Ukraine. Presidents Vladimir Putin and Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated the project at a ceremony in Istanbul.
