Further hryvnia strengthening expected in 2020 - Honcharuk

Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk has said that further strengthening of the hryvnia exchange rate is expected in 2020.

He said this in an interview with the TV channel Ukraine 24.

The prime minister noted that the national currency strengthening was due to the trust of Ukrainians in the country’s economic growth.

"I attribute this to the fact that confidence in the state is gradually returning to people and business," said Honcharuk.

At the same time, he added that the slight hryvnia weakening before the New Year was linked to speculative demand: “Before the New Year, people traditionally exchange dollars, buy hryvnias in order to purchase some gifts, or otherwise spend money”.

As reported, during the New Year and Christmas holidays, December 28, 2019 - January 7, 2020, the National Bank of Ukraine) set the official exchange rate of hryvnia at UAH 23.6862 for the U.S. dollar.
