Trilateral gas talks to be held on Dec 19 – Sefcovic

Vice-President of the European Commission for the Energy Union Maros Sefcovic has announced that EU-Russia-Ukraine gas negotiations will be held in Berlin on December 19.

“Looking forward to the next round of Trilateral Gas Talks at political level this Thursday 19 December. The time is high to send a positive message to markets and consumers,” Sefcovic wrote on his Twitter account.

As Ukrinform reported, on December 13, bilateral negotiations between Naftogaz and Gazprom on gas transit took place in Vienna (Austria). The parties agreed to continue work on options for the transit of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine. Ukraine was represented by Executive Director of Naftogaz of Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko and Director of LLC Operator of the Gas Transportation System of Ukraine Serhiy Makohon.

On December 9, Vitrenko told journalists that in Paris, as part of the Normandy Four summit, Ukraine and Russia had not agreed on a new contract on the transit of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine from January 1, 2020.

The current gas transit contract between Naftogaz and Gazprom expires on December 31, 2019. The parties are currently in talks to sign a new contract.
