U.S. Embassy congratulates Ukraine, IMF on reaching new agreement

The Embassy of the United States in Kyiv has congratulated Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on reaching an agreement for a new aid program.

In a post on Twitter, the embassy wrote: “Congratulations to Ukraine and the IMF for reaching a staff level agreement for a new aid program. A successful IMF program is critical to Ukraine's economic growth and military defense”.

As reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on December 7 held a phone conversation with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. Following the conversation, the parties noted that Ukraine and the IMF had reached a staff-level agreement on a new cooperation program.

EU Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas noted that the agreement between Ukraine and the IMF on a new cooperation program would also open the way for the country to the EU macro-financial assistance worth EUR 500 million.
