Ukraine to initiate digital services agreements with Canada and USA

Ukraine plans to initiate digital services agreements with Canada and the USA, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine, Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

He said that he had talked in Bavaria with representatives of Siemens that supply medical equipment.

"I ask: how can our country be inside this chain? In response: Ukraine is already there. All components of the equipment are manufactured in Germany, France, China and are shipped directly from there. But at the same time, Ukraine and several other countries have an "IT" component that not only services but also develops this equipment," Kachka said.

IT development is a priority for Ukraine, he said.

"We are now the global negotiator of the WTO e-commerce agreement. We are talking about integration into the digital union with the EU under the Association Agreement," Kachka noted.

He also said that Ukraine would offer Canada and the United States IT agreement.

"We're going to offer Canada the same section in the agreement they have with the US and Mexico on digital services. That's what we are going to discuss with the USA. That's what I see when we talk about involving our industry and increasing the share of high-tech solutions in our export," the official said.
