Government approves bill on multimodal transportation

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the bill on multimodal transportation, which implements the provisions of the EU Council’s Directive on the establishment of common rules for certain types of combined transport of goods between Member States.

The relevant decision was taken at a government meeting on November 20, the press service of the Infrastructure Ministry reported.

“Ukraine must realize its transit potential and become a transport hub that will connect Europe with Asia, using all the opportunities provided by modern digital technologies and multimodal transportation,” Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii said.

The draft law is aimed at joining the country to the Agreement on the development of multimodal Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) – an international transport programme involving the European Union and 14 member States of the Eastern European, Caucasian and Central Asian region.

The bill envisages the right of participants in multimodal transportation to carry out the transportation of goods under a single contract concluded for the entire carriage, even though it is performed by several different modes of transport, and to carry out transportation under one transportation document that was agreed by the parties.
