Deficit of Ukraine’s foreign trade in goods grows - State Statistics Service

Deficit of Ukraine’s foreign trade in goods made up almost $7.1 billion in January-September 2019, up $549.9 million compared to the relevant period last year, according to the State Statistics Service.

"Over the nine months of 2019, exports of goods amounted to $37,092.6 million, or 107.4% compared to the nine months of 2018, imports made up $44,191.3 million, or 107.5%. The negative balance was $7,098.7 million ($6,548.8 million in January-September 2018),” reads the report.

Foreign trade operations were carried out with partners from 221 countries.

Ukraine exported the largest volumes of goods to China (for almost $2.59 billion; an increase of 79.2% from the relevant period in 2018), Poland ($ 2.53 billion; an increase of 4.4%) and the Russian Federation ($2.45 billion; a decrease of 9.7%).

Among the top exported goods were ferrous metals (for $6.9 billion, a decrease of 10.3%), grains ($6.8 billion, an increase of 42.5%), fats and oils ($3.3 billion, an increase of 3.9%).

Over the reporting period, the largest amount of goods imported to Ukraine came from China (for about $6.6 billion; an increase of 26.1%), the Russian Federation ($5.4 billion; a decrease of 6.9%) and Germany ($4.5 billion, a decrease of 0.9%).

The main commodity positions of Ukrainian imports included machinery and equipment (for $9.47 billion, an increase of 12.7%), mineral fuels, oil and products of its distillation (for $8.9 billion, a decrease of 7%), chemical and related industries (for about $5.7 billion, an increase of 8.8%).

As Ukrinform reported, Ukrainian exports of goods totaled $47.3 billion in 2018, up 9.4% compared with 2017; Ukrainian imports reached $57.2 billion, up 15.3%.
