Next round of trilateral gas talks scheduled for Oct 28 - Naftogaz

Ukraine, the European Commission and Russia have held technical consultations as part of preparations for the next phase of gas transit negotiations, due to take place on October 28, the press service of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine has reported.

"Ukraine, the European Commission and the Russian Federation have held technical consultations as part of preparations for the next phase of trilateral talks on the transit of Russian gas after January 1, 2020. The meeting was held on Monday in Brussels. During the meeting, the parties discussed Ukraine's progress in implementing the norms of European legislation and creating an independent GTS operator," the report reads.

The sides also discussed the signing of an interconnection agreement between the gas transit system operators of Ukraine and Russia on standard European terms, as well as methods for tariff formation during gas transportation.

The next phase of trilateral talks on gas transit is expected to take place on October 28.

The contract for Russian gas transit through Ukraine expires on December 31, 2019.

On September 19, 2019, Brussels hosted another round of negotiations chaired by European Commission Vice President for the Energy Union Maros Sefcovic and attended by the delegations of the European Commission, Ukraine and Russia. The Ukrainian delegation includes Minister for Energy and Environmental Protection Oleksiy Orzhel and Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev.

The parties noted a constructive approach to the possibility of preserving gas transit.
