Government intends to reduce rent payments for amber extraction

The Energy and Environmental Protection Ministry has proposed that rent payments for amber production be reduced from 25% to 15% so that to combat illegal amber mining in Ukraine.

Energy and Environmental Protection Minister Oleksiy Orzhel stated said this during the talk show Svoboda Slova on Monday evening, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We are trying to solve the problem with illegal amber production. The proposal is to reduce rent payments for amber production from 25% to 15%," the minister said.

He added that the ministry in such a way intends to provide certain economic incentives to those people who want to officially register their business and “carry out amber production properly."
