Ukraine importing gas from EU for 1,400 days already

As of September 27, 2019, Ukraine has not been importing gas for its needs from Russia for 1,400 days already.

"As of today, Ukraine has not been importing natural gas for its needs from Russia for 1,400 days already, so all the imported gas comes from the EU only," the press service of Ukrtransgaz gas transmission system operator reports.

In total, since the beginning of 2019, gas imports to Ukraine have totaled 11.2 billion cubic meters of gas, namely 7 billion cubic meters from Slovakia (+43%), 3.1 billion cubic meters from Hungary (+29%), 1.1 billion cubic meters from Poland (+120%).

In off-season, May-September, the Ukrtransgaz transported 8.7 billion cubic meters from the European Union, up 3 billion cubic meters, or 53%, compared to the same period in 2018 and 2017.

"Such an increase in imports is explained by the need to accumulate more than 20 billion cubic meters of gas at the underground gas storage facilities for securing 2019-2020 heating season in Ukraine," Ukrtransgaz noted.
