Ukraine ready to continue trilateral gas talks this month – Orzhel

Ukraine has reiterated its readiness to continue trilateral gas negotiations in the format of Ukraine-European Commission-Russia in September.

Ukrainian Energy and Environmental Protection Minister Oleksiy Orzhel said this during a telephone conversation with Vice President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic, the Ministry’s press service reported.

"The Ukrainian delegation, which I head, is ready to take part in trilateral gas talks this month," Orzhel said.

During the conversation, the parties emphasized that cooperation in the energy sector would remain one of the key priorities of relations between Ukraine and the EU, and Ukraine’s integration into European energy markets would contribute to strengthening the energy security of both sides.

The parties also discussed the process of unbundling of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and the need for its early completion.

As Ukrinform reported, the contract on transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine expires on December 31, 2019.
