Wheat harvest in Luhansk region hits a record

Farmers in Luhansk region gathered 1.2 million tonnes of early grain and leguminous crops, including a record 1.06 million tonnes of wheat.

Deputy Director of the Agrarian and Industrial Development Department, Liubov Bezkorovaina stated this when reporting on the results of the 2019 grain harvesting, according to the press service of the Luhansk Regional State Administration.

“Farmers managed to gather 1.2 million tonnes of grain crops, which exceeds last year's figures by 0.3 million tonnes," Bezkorovaina said.

According to her, harvesting of early grain and leguminous crops has been completed in the region. The threshed area under the early grain crops grew by 0.8 thousand hectares – up to 340 thousand hectares. The yield of early grain and leguminous crops made up 36.8 centners per ha (29.9 centners per ha in 2018).

It is noted that wheat was threshed from an area of 278.8 thousand hectares. The gross harvest amounted to 1.06 million tonnes of grain, which is a record figure for Luhansk region since 1990, even considering the temporarily occupied areas in the region.
