Ukrzaliznytsia to repair and purchase 50 passenger wagons this year

JSC Ukrzaliznytsia plans to overhaul and purchase about 50 passenger wagons this year, Ukrzaliznytsia Board Chairman Yevhen Kravtsov has said in an interview with the UNIAN news agency.

"Last year, we upgraded about 120 wagons. This year, we plan to overhaul and purchase about 50 wagons. All of them are equipped with individual sockets and have air conditioning. Today, about half of our wagon fleet is air-conditioned. There are sockets in half of the wagon fleet," Kravtsov said.

He also added that when upgrading passenger cars, Ukrzaliznytsia would favor modern models used in leading countries. The company also plans to expand the fleet of high-speed and suburban trains.

In May this year, Ukrzaliznytsia appealed to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a request for state support in rail transportation. In total, the appeal concerns about UAH 7.1 billion in state budget funds, according to Director of Economics and Finance at JSC Ukrzaliznytsia Andriy Riazantsev.

According to him, Ukrzaliznytsia could have bought more than 60 passenger locomotives, or 250 passenger cars, or 15 new ten-car trains for UAH 7 billion.
