Ukrzaliznytsia plans to buy 40 more U.S. locomotives – Omelyan

Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan met with representatives of Wabtec Corporation and the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) to discuss the conditions of purchase of 40 locomotives for PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways).

The minister informed this on his Facebook page on Tuesday, July 30.

"Today, together with the ExImBank and Wabtec representatives, we discussed the conditions and timescales for the purchase of at least 40 additional locomotives for Ukrainian Railways," Omelyan wrote.

He added that he had asked the ExImBank to set separate financing for Ukrainian airlines, giving them the ability to renew their fleet.

“It would be even better if our state budget also provided some financing for Ukrainian aviation - it would go a long way towards preserving the growth of this sector, while giving our airlines the ability to purchase and lease new airlines,” Omelyan noted.

As reported, in February 2019, the American company General Electric sold a portion of GE Transportation assets to Wabtec Corporation.
