EU may sign open skies treaty with Ukraine by year-end

Ukraine and the European Union may sign a common aviation area agreement by the end of the year if the United Kingdom leaves the EU in October.

EU Ambassador to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli said this in an interview with the Yevropeiska Pravda online newspaper.

"My colleagues in Brussels say that obstacles for signing the agreement will be removed as soon as Brexit takes place," he said.

He recalled that the signing of the treaty had been blocked due to a dispute between Spain and the UK regarding the status of Gibraltar.

"Therefore, when Britain leaves the European Union, there will be no dispute inside the EU. So, I hope that this will happen by the end of this year," the ambassador added.
