Ukraine harvests 11.3 mln tonnes of grain

Ukrainian farmers harvested 11.3 million tonnes of grain crops as of July 8, 2019, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has reported.

"As of July 8, farmers in all regions started harvesting early grain and leguminous crops. Some 11.3 million tonnes of grain of a new crop have been threshed from an area of 3.4 million hectares, or 35% of the target," the report reads.

In particular, Ukraine harvested 7.3 million tonnes of wheat from an area of 2.1 million hectares (32% of the target), 3.6 million tonnes of barley from an area of 1.1 million hectares (43% of the target), and 402,000 tonnes of peas from an area of 187,000 hectares (66% of the target).

Farmers also threshed 1.1 million tonnes of winter rape from an area of 519,000 hectares (40% of the target).

According to the ministry, farmers from Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Kharkiv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions began to harvest rye, threshing 2,000 tonnes from an area of 600 hectares (0.5% of the target) as of July 8. Farmers from Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Mykolaiv and Odesa regions started harvesting oats, threshing 1,500 tonnes from an area of 1,000 hectares (0.4% of the target).

The sowing campaign in 2019 began a month earlier than last year. The total area under agricultural crops in all categories of farms for the 2019 harvest is about 27.7 million hectares.
