Ukraine exports agricultural products worth about $800 mln to China this year

In January-May 2019, exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to China amounted to USD 795 million, according to Acting Agrarian Policy and Food Minister of Ukraine Olha Trofimtseva.

She said this during a working meeting with a Chinese delegation on July 4, the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine reports.

"China is one of the key trade partners of Ukraine in agriculture, which is consistently among the top five countries that import Ukrainian agricultural products. For five months of this year, agricultural trade between the countries amounted to more than USD 860 million, while exports reached USD 795 million," Trofimtseva said.

She noted that Ukraine was actively working on the diversification of export markets for domestic agricultural products, and China was interested in diversifying the import of such products.

Representative of the Chinese delegation confirmed the interest of China in strengthening cooperation between the countries in the agricultural sector.

During the meeting, the parties agreed to begin work on a framework document that establishes areas of cooperation between the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration of the People's Republic of China. The document is expected to be signed in Beijing this year.

In recent years, bilateral trade in agricultural products between Ukraine and the PRC has amounted to more than USD 1 billion. The share of agricultural products in the overall structure of Ukrainian exports to China is more than 50%. At present, Ukraine is the main supplier of maize and sunflower oil to China.
