Groysman, U.S. representatives discuss cooperation in energy sector

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has stated that Ukraine’s energy independence is an integral part of the European energy security and a key to efficient cooperation with other strategic partners.

He stated this at a meeting with Kent D. Logsdon, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Energy Resources, the Government portal reported on June 24.

"We praise your attention to energy issues. The joint decision of such issues affects not only the energy independence of Ukraine, but also the energy security of Europe,” said Groysman.

During the meeting, the officials discussed topics in which Ukraine and the United States have a common position: strengthening the role of Ukraine as a transit country for gas to European consumers and the maximum loading of the Ukrainian gas transmission system, counteracting the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which is a purely political project and another hybrid weapon against the European Union, as well as strengthening Ukraine's own capabilities as a gas country.

"Energy sector is a big part of our relationship. Washington is very serious about the energy component of cooperation with Ukraine. The U.S. Government is interested in implementing joint projects,” Logsdon said.

The U.S. high official headed a delegation of American experts who visited the gas regions of Ukraine, in particular Poltava region, for the purpose of implementing and developing international projects in these areas.
