Harvesting campaign begins in Ukraine

The harvesting campaign for early grain crops has started in six regions of Ukraine, with 440,000 tonnes already threshed, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has reported.

"As of June 20, farmers in Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions started harvesting early grain crops. In total, 404,000 tonnes of grain crops of the new harvest were threshed from an area of 133,000 hectares (1%), with a yield being 30.3 centners per hectare," the report reads.

It notes that farmers harvested 49,000 tonnes of winter wheat from an area of 17,000 hectares with a yield of 29.1 centners per hectare, 341,000 tonnes of barley from 109,000 hectares with a yield of 31.3 centners per hectare; and 14,000 tonnes of peas from 7,000 hectares with a yield of 18.2 centners per hectare.

The harvesting of winter rape has also begun, with 6,000 tonnes threshed from an area of 4,000 hectares and a yield being 15.3 centners per hectare.
