US announces imposition of additional sanctions against Russia

The United States announced the imposition of additional sanctions against two Russian companies, as well as the training center of the Russian Armed Forces, associated with violations of accepted standards for the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

“A determination has been made that a number of foreign persons [individuals and legal entities] have engaged in activities that warrant the imposition of measures pursuant to Section 3 of the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act,” reads the public notice of imposition of nonproliferation measures against foreign persons, which was published by the U.S. Department of State in the Federal Register.

On May 14, 2019, the imposition of measures pursuant to Section 3 of the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act described in this notice went into effect against Gatchina Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) Training Center (Russia) and Moscow Machine Building Plant Avangard (MMZ Avangard) (Russia).

In addition, the U.S. sanctions were imposed against ten Chines companies, three citizens of China, a defense enterprise in Iran and five organizations in Syria.

The notice appeared in the register on Tuesday, though it is stated that the document is scheduled to be published officially on May 22.
