Poroshenko: Ukraine must avert another threat of default

Ukraine must avert another threat of default, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said at a meeting with business representatives.

"We must avert another threat of default. Although, former owner of the PrivatBank [Ihor Kolomoisky], based on his interview, likes this idea very much. He says that we will not be able to develop without a default. However I emphasize: I do not like this idea, I have not liked it over the past five years. And I am grateful to the colleagues from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the partners from the Government led by two prime ministers, including Volodymyr Groysman, who have made every effort to avoid default and ensure macro-financial stability. I emphasize: millions and millions of Ukrainians also do not like the idea of default," the President said, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The International Monetary Fund will respond harshly to any attempts to undermine the independence of the National Bank of Ukraine, the president noted.
