IT sector able to bring 6.8% of GDP in two years – Poroshenko

The IT sector of Ukraine currently provides 4% of gross domestic product (GDP), and in two years this figure may reach 6.8% of GDP.

President Petro Poroshenko said this during a meeting with representatives of the IT industry today, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"The industry already creates 4% of GDP. There is every reason to believe that in two years it will be 6.8% of GDP," he said.

Poroshenko reminded that 100 thousand workers had been employed in the IT industry in 2016, 161 thousand - at the beginning of 2019. He expressed hope that in two years the IT industry would employ 200 thousand people.

At the same time, the president assured that the authorities were doing everything to provide Ukraine with high-speed broadband Internet as soon as possible.

“This will ensure the full-scale implementation of many projects, including the New Ukrainian School and rural medicine, in particular telemedicine and e-government,” the head of state said.
