Poroshenko: Through Beskidy tunnel, 60% of Ukraine's exports go to EU

Through the Beskidy tunnel, 60% of Ukraine's exports go to the countries of Europe.

“Through the Beskidy tunnel, 60% of Ukraine's export is transported to the countries of Europe. This is the second railway tunnel in Ukraine in terms of length with capacity of over 100 pairs of trains per day. This saves time and ensures transport reliability,” Petro Poroshenko said in his speech at a meeting of the Lviv Regional Development Council.

According to the president, 1,744 km of roads and 21 bridges have been repaired in Lviv region in recent years.

Poroshenko stressed that Lviv region is a leader in road construction, particularly due to “customs experiment” launched in 2017.

In general, Ukraine’s expenditures on road construction grew from UAH 10 billion in 2014 to UAH 55 billion in 2018, Poroshenko noted.

The Beskidy tunnel crosses the Carpathian Mountains between the towns of Beskid and Skotarske and connects the Ukrainian rail network through a double-track link with the pan-European transport Corridor (Italy - Slovenia - Hungary - Slovakia - Ukraine). It was officially opened on May 24, 2018.
