Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates signed the memorandum on cooperation in the field of agriculture and food safety.

"Today, February 20, Ukraine and the UAE signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates on cooperation in the field of agriculture and food safety. The signing ceremony took place in Dubai (UAE) during the business trip of the Ukrainian delegation to the Gulfood 2019 international agrarian exhibition," the press service of the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine reports.

The memorandum was signed by Acting Agrarian Policy and Food Minister of Ukraine Olha Trofimtseva and Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi.

"The United Arab Emirates is an important partner for us in the agriculture and food sectors. Ukraine intends to become a strategic partner of the UAE to ensure the country's food security. The signing of the memorandum will provide significant opportunities for our countries to boost the bilateral trade in agricultural products, expand the commodity nomenclature, and deepen cooperation in the field of livestock production and food security," Trofimtseva said.

She pointed to the positive dynamics of the UAE - Ukraine bilateral trade in agricultural products. In 2015, the trade in agricultural and food products between the countries totaled USD 142 million. Already in 2018, the volume of trade was slightly over USD 204 million with USD 194.3 million accounting for Ukrainian exports.

"I am very glad to notice that the number of Ukrainian producers participating in the international annual Gulfood exhibition grows annually. Last year, there were 30 Ukrainian participants. In 2019, already 69 Ukrainian participants are here. The interest of the Arab companies in Ukrainian products and investment opportunities also grow," Trofimtseva commented.

Minister Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi visited the Ukrainian national stand and acknowledged the high level of presentation of our country and industry. He emphasized that the UAE was really interested in expanding trade and economic relations and deepening investment cooperation. The minister also assured of the readiness to assist representatives of the Ukrainian small and medium-sized enterprises of the agro-industrial complex in finding reliable distribution channels for the sale of their goods in the UAE.
