Ukraine exported over half a million tonnes of sugar in 2018

In 2018, Ukraine exported 586.5 thousand tonnes of sugar worth $217.09 million, the press service of the Ukrtsukor National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine reports

"Compared to the previous year, export volumes did not change much, but its geography changed. Last year the largest importer of Ukrainian sugar was Sri Lanka (69.03 thousand tonnes), while this year – Uzbekistan (285.2 thousand tonnes). And the top three includes Azerbaijan and Libya - 44.7 thousand and 43.8 thousand tonnes, respectively,” said Head of the analytical department at Ukrtsukor, Ruslana Butylo.

In December 2018, Ukraine exported 59.0 thousand tonnes of sugar. Thus, over the four months of the current marketing year, 198.9 thousand tonnes of sugar have already been delivered to foreign markets. This is 14.3% higher compared to the same period last year, the expert said.

"Considering the market situation and still a surplus year, despite the projected decline in sugar production in India, Ukrainian producers will have to work on improving product quality and establishing long-term contracts. How to do it and what mechanisms to involve, we will discuss this in a month at the International Congress Sugar World 2019,” the expert said.

As reported, Ukraine exported 560 thousand tonnes of sugar in 2017/2018 marketing year.
