Austria interested in economic development of Ukraine - president of National Council

The Republic of Austria is interested in economic development of Ukraine.

President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria Wolfgang Sobotka said this during a joint briefing with Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"Austria supports economic development of Ukraine. It is interested in a stable and consistent development of Ukraine. Austria is the ninth largest foreign investor in Ukrainian economy. Investments should serve to improve the standard of living and people's confidence in their future," Sobotka said.

According to him, Austria will build cultural relations between the countries. "The Austrian Parliament ... will invite Ukrainian artists, writers and scientists in order to better represent Ukraine in Austria," Sobotka said.

He also invited the representatives of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on European Integration and the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada to visit Austria "in order to develop inter-parliamentary relations."

Sobotka thanked Parubiy for hospitality and noted that the political contacts between Austria and Ukraine were very intense.

As reported, President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria Wolfgang Sobotka is on an official visit to Ukraine on January 14-16.
