Ukrainians clear 6,500 cars with foreign registration plates

Almost 6,500 cars with foreign registration plates have been cleared in Ukraine as of December 20, 2018, the press service of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine has reported.

"Of the total number of cleared cars, almost 6,200 vehicles stayed in the customs territory of Ukraine in violation of the requirements of the Customs Code of Ukraine. Their owners voluntarily paid UAH 52.3 million for them (UAH 8,500 per car), which freed them from administrative responsibility for non-compliance with the requirements of customs regimes when importing a vehicle with foreign registration, the terms and conditions of import of which were not observed. Some 827 cars were cleared at customs on December 19," the statement reads.

As reported, new conditions for the import of vehicles for Ukrainian citizens were introduced under law No. 2612-VIIІ of November 08, 2018, which amended the Customs Code of Ukraine and some other legislative acts of Ukraine regarding the import of vehicles into the customs territory of Ukraine.

A transitional period of 180 days is envisaged for citizens who imported cars from January 1, 2015 until the entry into force of this law.
