Bulgarian airline suspends flights to Odesa due to martial law

Bulgaria Air has suspended flights between Sofia and Odesa until December 16 inclusive due to the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, reads a report posted on the company's website.

"Due to the declared military situation in Ukraine and the recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and for the safety of the passengers, the national carrier Bulgaria Air suspended its flights between Sofia and Odesa until 16 December 2018 inclusive," reads the report.

Bulgaria Air added that depending on the normalization of the situation in Ukraine it will be determined whether flights that are due after December 16 can be executed.

As reported, Russian border ships on November 25 committed aggressive actions against Ukrainian ships that set sail from the port of Odesa to the port of Mariupol. Russian special forces fired on and captured three Ukrainian ships with 24 sailors on board in the Kerch Strait.

On November 26, 2018, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law approving a presidential decree on the introduction of martial law in Ukraine for 30 days in ten regions of the country, including Odesa region.
