Consolidation of reforms and transparency of electoral process among Ukraine’s priorities for 2019

The Government’s key tasks for 2019, during which two election campaigns are planned to be held, are to preserve economic growth and to guarantee the irreversibility of reforms.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman said this during a meeting with experts from the National Democratic Institute (the USA), the Government portal reported.

"We are facing important challenges. The main thing is to ensure stability. We have overriding economic and financial challenges, but we are doing a lot to provide growth. The second task is not to halt the reform process. And the third is to provide everything that depends on the Government to hold democratic and transparent elections," Groysman said.

The NDI representatives noted that the irreversibility of reforms in fact was important, especially in the context of improving the business climate, the continuation of decentralization, which "already shows significant progress." However, a transparent electoral process, deprived of external influences, is equally in demand and much awaited by both the Ukrainian society and the international community.

According to President of the National Democratic Institute Derek Mitchell, Ukraine is currently on the cutting edge in the fight against Russian aggression. And the experience of counteracting Russian aggression is worthwhile for the whole world.

During the talks, the parties agreed to work more closely together in the near future, taking into account the developments in Ukraine, inter alia in the context of the elections, and in the world.
