Merkel promises to significantly increase funding for projects in support of Ukraine

Germany will continue to provide support to Ukraine, in particular through a variety of cooperation programs.

"We will significantly increase the amount of money allocated for cooperation," German Chancellor Angela Merkel said at a press conference after the talks with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

She informed about the plans to establish an advanced experience center worth EUR 2 million. According to Merkel, it is important that scientists have an opportunity to stay and work in Ukraine, not to emigrate abroad.

The German Chancellor announced the willingness to allocate additional EUR 85 million to improve the employment prospects for young Ukrainians through vocational training and their housing situation.

Merkel sees progress in the negotiations on bilateral agreements, in particular on EUR 500 million untied loan, which can be used for implementation of the infrastructure projects in Mariupol, Zaporizhzhia and the Odesa port.

The German Chancellor also reminded of cooperation in development programs.

Since 2014, the German side has allocated EUR 490 million, including for the needs of the temporarily displaced persons and development of social infrastructure in eastern Ukraine.
