Ukrainian farmers harvest over 15 mln tonnes of corn

Ukrainian famers have already harvested over 15 million tonnes of corn from an area of 2.3 million hectares, the press service of the Agrarian Policy Ministry reports.

“As of October 17, Ukrainian famers threshed 15.3 million tonnes of corn from an area of 2.3 million hectares (51%) with a yield of 65.4 centners/ha,” reads the report.

The ministry noted that 50.3 million tonnes of grain crops had been already harvested from an area of 12.5 million hectares in the current marketing year.

In particular, 34.3 million tonnes of early grain and leguminous crops were harvested from an area of 9.9 million hectares with a yield of 34.8 centners/ha; 125 thousand tonnes of buckwheat from an area of 102 thousand hectares (94%) with a yield of 12.3 centners/ha; 74 thousand tonnes of millet from an area of 48 thousand hectares (91%) with a yield of 15.4 centners/ha.

In addition, 12.2 million tonnes of sunflower seeds were threshed from an area of 5.5 million hectares (91%) with a yield of 22.2 centners/ha; 3.4 million tonnes of soybeans from an area 1.3 million hectares (79%) with a yield of 25.3 centners/ha; 2.7 million tonnes of rapeseed from an area of 1.0 million hectares with a yield of 26.1 centners/ha. Also, 7.2 million tonnes of sugar beets were harvested from an area of 149 thousand hectares (53%) with a yield of 483 centners/ha.

Together with harvesting, the autumn sowing campaign is underway. The farmers have already sowed 6.5 million hectares with winter crops (91%) with a projected area of 7.2 million hectares. The farmers also sowed 1.0 million hectares with winter rapeseed (113%) with a projected area of 888 thousand hectares.
