Ukraine for first time exports corn to Europe – Martyniuk

In 2018, Ukraine for the first time will export corn to European countries.

First Deputy Agrarian Policy Minister Maksym Martyniuk said this at a press conference in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"I think that we for the first time will export corn to Europe in this year, because the quality of corn is satisfactory. At the same time, there were arid conditions in some European countries, and they have shortage in corn," Martyniuk said.

According to him, Ukraine expects to collect corn in the range of 30 million tonnes in 2018.

"We expect a gross harvest of 29.5 million tonnes, possibly about 30 million tonnes. This is much more than we had last year, when we gathered almost 25 million tonnes. And, accordingly, we expect that most of this harvest will be exported," the first deputy minister noted.

He added that, according to the Agrarian Policy Ministry, in the 2018/2019 marketing year, the corn export forecasts amount to 22 million tonnes.
