Ukraine cuts gas imports by quarter - Ukrtransgaz

Ukraine reduced imports of natural gas from European countries in January-August 2018 by 26.6% compared to the same period in 2017, the press service of JSC Ukrtransgaz has said.

"Since the beginning of 2018, gas imports from Europe have decreased by 26.6% compared to the same period in 2017. This was due to significant gas reserves in underground gas storage facilities, which were created at the expense of the resources of Naftogaz of Ukraine and other customers before the start of the pumping season," Ukrtransgaz said.

In the period from January to August this year, natural gas flows from the EU countries amounted to 6.9 billion cubic meters, which is 2.5 billion cubic meters less than during the same period last year.

The largest gas volumes were imported from Slovakia (4.3 billion cubic meters), Hungary (2.1 billion cubic meters) and Poland (500 million cubic meters).

As reported, Ukraine pumped 7.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas from underground gas storage facilities from January to August 2018, which is 78% more than during the same period last year.
