Ukraine can strengthen positions as global corn exporter

In the current season, Ukraine can reinforce its positions as the world's leading corn exporter.

Deputy Agrarian Policy and Food Minister of Ukraine Viktor Sheremeta said this at the agricultural and logistic forum "Dnieper-Danube-Black Sea" held in Mykolaiv on August 22, the APK-Inform portal reported.

"In the 2018/2019 marketing year, the global stocks of corn are expected at the minimum level. This gives a good chance to Ukraine, because this year we expect to get a good harvest of grain," the deputy minister said.

He recalls that the forecast of gross yield of Ukrainian corn in the current year is about 27-28 million tonnes, which will be a record indicator for the country.

"At the same time, the existing logistics problems in Ukraine significantly complicate the realization of the export potential in full measure," Sheremeta added.

As reported, in 2017-18 MY, Ukraine exported 14.39 million tonnes of corn. The European Union was the main buyer of Ukrainian corn.
